We were celebrating and we ordered the $102 steak for 2 that only came with a salad… The portions are also very small for nearly $25 on average. The service was good and drinks were okay. The restaurant is overpriced for the amount of chaos going on between servers. I would not come back it’s performative.

Excellent experience. We started with the roasted beet and yogurt dip with flatbread; it's a nice appetizer portion and it was the perfect starter. We continued with the tomato and peach salad; it was really well balanced. Then came the oxtail "dumplings" (which are actually tortellini); they had a really nice and deep flavor. Our main course was the lamb shank with sweet potato puree, with a side of cheesey potatoes; the lamb was tender enough to fall of the bone, while the potatoes were nice and creamy. We finished the night with a strawberry ricotta crostata with a little ice cream; once again, everything worked really well together. We also enjoyed some quite tart but pleasent nebbiolo red wine. The service was really attentive and quick. Our waitress explained everything very thoroughly and all the dishes came out promptly and orderly. I do wish they disclosed upfront the price of the off-menu items they try to sell (i.e.: the desserts). The atmosphere is somewhat elegant but still casual. Our table however was very close to the open kitchen and we could hear the waiters calling out orders throughout the whole night. We spent $177.66 after tax before tip for two and it was

Tar & Roses was an absolutely fantastic experience. You can taste the passion and attention to detail in every bite. It's not all that often that a meal significantly exceeds my expectations. I appreciate food that's well-executed, but usually just acknowledge "yes, this was made correctly," right? But every course at Tar & Roses surprised me. Not only was everything executed immaculately, it was all absolutely inspired. The best bite on the table was the Thai green curry style corn. It sounds simple, but you wanna talk about a balanced dish? Every flavor came through with such clarity, it was absolutely stunning. We also got the oxtail dumplings, lamb shank, roast duck, broccolini, sticky toffee pudding, and a strawberry tart. Everything was absolutely delicious. Most dishes have a subtle but brilliant fusion twist. Nothing crazy, more of like a - why aren't more people doing this?! Our server was so friendly, the restaurant was very cozy with great lighting. I mean, no notes, absolutely. It was a first-class dinner. I can't wait to come back.

One of our favourite meals in Santa Monica! We were able to get a last minute same day reservation for a busy Saturday night for late dinner. Perfect spot for date night or celebrating special occasions. Staff were incredibly friendly, server was so knowledgeable and made exceptional recommendations. We ordered the following with wine parings, tapas share style for 2 people which was the perfect amount of food for us: - Oxtail Dumplings - Corn & Mascarpone Gnocchi - Spaghetti Carbonara - Duck Breast - Strawberry Ricotta Crostata with handmade vanilla ice cream dessert All of which were outstanding, we can’t wait to come back to try more dishes!

I had a wonderful evening at Tar & Roses and wanted to recognize Carly, the hostess. She was absolutely fantastic and made the experience feel welcoming from the moment I walked in. Carly was warm, friendly, and incredibly hospitable. She checked in a few times throughout the night and made sure everything was going well, which really stood out. The person greeting you at the door truly sets the tone for the entire experience, and Carly did that beautifully. Her kindness and professionalism made the night feel special. The carrots were divine, one of my favorite dishes to order when done well and they didn’t well.
